JBS.com Presents - Detroit Lions NFL Draft Preview - Rounds 1,2,3

With the NFL draft only 10 days away, I wanna formally invite everyone and anyone that will be in the NYC area to come out to the first ever JBS.com draft party to get blackout drunk starting on Thursday evening at our local watering hole B61 and ending Saturday afternoon with some rooftop beer die. Since draft day is like the Lion's Super Bowl and also coincides with my birthday we are gonna drink till we can't feel feelings.

Being as close as we are till the Lions are on the clock,I think it's about time to throw out my picks for the first three rounds. So, here we go. Time to get cooking that cornbread.

1'st Round - Pick #2 - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

This one is as easy as they come and looks to be even Detroit Lion proof. As long as they don't let the rest of the football world talk them out of it, the most dominant player in the draft should fall right into their lap. And don't buy into any of this DT isn't worth the #2 overall pick talk that I hear going around. This guy is special. This speed and size don't come in the same package very often. In fact, I'm not really sure if I've ever seen it. Suh to the Lions at #2. Lock it in. I've already got T-Higs printing up some King Kong Suh shirts.

Plan B Pill - If someone offers the Lions their 1'st, 2'nd and 3'rd or possibly early 4'th rounder for Suh then you take it. Anything other than that, you tell them to go fuck themselves because Suh is our defensive Barry Sanders.

2'nd Round - Pick #34 - Kyle Wilson, CB,

Suh was easy but this is where things start to get interesting. In my opinion the Lions need major help at both corner back and running back, with corner back taking priority. Even though I am in love with Jahvid Best, the running back from Cal, I still think that Kyle Wilson could be a future cornerstone of the Lions defense along with Delmas, Suh, and Levy.

If Kyle Wilson is available at 34, which is a definite possibility, then you take him. He can go one on one on an island, is a physical play maker, and will help the return game like Derrick "worst pick of last year" Williams never will. Not to mention you know how fuckin showtime our defensive backfield is gonna look with Delmas and Wilson just jumping around, dreads flying everywhere after every single pass break up.

Plan B Pill - If Wilson is taken off the board late in the first round then there are several things to consider. I don't think any of the other corners in this corner heavy draft stand out as much as Hadden and Wilson, so this gives the Lions the luxury of thinking running back here and taking a corner with their next pick at #66, because there should be a few solid ones remaining. If Wilson is gone then you go with, Jahvid Best, running back from Cal. His big play potential is off the charts and could be just the play maker the Lions need to help make Stafford more comfortable in year two. Ala, Reggie Bush in New Orleans.

3'rd Round - Pick #66 - Jonathon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech

If the Lions get Wilson in the 2'nd round then they should use this 3'rd round selection to get a running back or offensive lineman. With Kevin Smith's return from injury uncertain and since the Lions did some patch work on the offensive line with free agent Rob Sims coming in, I think they need to grab one of the solid mid round running backs here. If either Ben Tate or Jonathon Dwyer remain available you have to take one of these physical, downhill backs that the Lions lack. I give the nod to Dwyer who reminds me of bargain bin Benie Wells.

Plan B Pill - If the Lions get their running back in round two then you should take either Brandon Ghee, Chris Cook, Kareem Jackson, or even stretch for Javier Arenas in this spot. At least one should be available and all four would help the secondary immediately.

With the first two days and first three rounds of the draft covered we can now set our sights on day three and rounds 4-7. Expect completed draft coverage later in the week. Now will someone go throw some fuckin cornbread in the oven cause Lions are about to get cooking.
