Ford Field Hosts Huge Party For Strangers
Detroitnews -- In a historic, record-setting Frozen Four at Ford Field, Wisconsin will face Boston College for the national championship in men's hockey, after both teams annihilated their opponents in semifinal games on Thursday. The NCAA announced that the attendance, 34,954, broke the world record for an indoor hockey game. The crowd shattered the previous attendance record for a Frozen Four, 19,342 in St. Louis in 2007.
Wisco - 8, RIT - 1
BC - 7, Miami - 1
Look at Ford Field trying to host a legit sporting event for once. Usually I have to wait until the MHSAA championship football games each fall to see anything that remotely resembles a crowd at Ford Field. Jhof said it best two years ago when we were at the Lions-Skins game and he looked over at me during a completely silent moment and said "this place is like a fuckin mall". And he was exactly right. People just milling around, huge neon Pepsi signs everywhere, and zero acknoweldgement that a professional football game was going on.
But I can't say I'm suprised that Hockeytown came out in full force to watch a couple of non Michigan teams play hockey. Michigan is a hockey state and always has been. No the real story here is these scores. There hasn't been this much offense at Ford Field since Thanksgiving '08 when the Titans hung 47 on us. It's just a shame that Michigan was job'd by the refs against Miami of Ohio in the Regional final cause seeing the Wolverines play for the National Championship in our own backyard would've been dope.
