Should The Tigers Trade For Hanley Ramirez?
There's been a fair amount of Hanley Ramirez trade talk since that abortion of an effort he put out last week. With everyone shitting all over him these days I'm thinking he could be had for a pretty cheap price too. If the Marlins are willing to move him for a prospect and a pack of big league chew then I think the Tigers should seriously consider it. Despite his well documented attitude problem, Hanley continues to be a monster at the plate. He has a lifetime .303 average and has 103 homers in the last 4 years. Imagine the Tigers lineup if you could throw Hanley in the mix. You're looking at Jackson, Damon, Magglio, Miguel, Hanley, then Guillen or Boesch. That shit is Yankee esque.
There are two main concerns when looking at the Tigers making this move. You gotta consider that the Tigers have been winning with the current lineup and team chemistry is at an almost 2006 level. Is it really wise to bring a loud mouth youngin into that mix? I don't think it would slow us down at all cause there are already 5 or 6 leaders, both young and old, on this team that would toss his ass up against a locker before they let him shoot his mouth off in the clubhouse.
No, my major concern is the roughly 60 million that Hanley is owed over the next 4 years. I just don't see Illitch adding another gianormous contract after all that clever manuevering they did last year to drop Granderson and pick up his clone, Austin Jackson, who is making a bargain bin 400,000. But if he is willing to pay, this move makes the Tigers World Series contenders. I say do it. Just my opinion.
