Freep - Kwame Kilpatrick needs help paying back the City of Detroit, so he's turning to the people of Detroit and beyond. On Wednesday he initiated a public fund-raiser for himself on several new Web sites, anchored by www.friendsofkwame.com.The site is accepting notes of support and financial contributions to help him pay off his restitution.

The "Friends" site also gives Kilpatrick credit for many accomplishments as mayor. According to the site, Kilpatrick: "Lured 75 new businesses to Detroit in his tenure, negotiated deals to open 7 new Hotels, including 3 Casino Hotels" and pursued "as well as, refurbished more than 30 of the city's parks and recreation centers for the city's children and families. ... Kilpatrick was also regarded for his relentless pursuit of (the) ... NFL Superbowl, MLB All-Star Game, The Arab-American Summit, The G-8 Energy Summit, The Detroit Grand Prix, The Red Bull Air Races, NCAA Final Four, and many others."

The bio overlooks that many things for which Kilpatrick takes credit were undertaken by his predecessor as mayor, Dennis Archer. It also makes no mention of the text message scandal that sent Kilpatrick to jail.

Get out your checkbooks ladies and gentlemen cause our brother Kwame is in need. I know that some of you might be saying, "Joeyblueskies, you're crazy. I'm still way too pissed about the whole running Detroit into the ground thing to forgive him". But come on folks, we've all been down and out at one point or another and I think we should all reach out and help Kwame during these tough economic times. Because remember, he who has never covered up the murder of a Detroit stripper may cast the first stone.

I for one know that JBS.com is making a significant donation so that he can reimburse Detroit for the 1 million dollars he stole and still make the mortgage payments on his $500,000 house down in Texas.
