Black Tuesday Continues, Another 4-3 Loss For The Wings.
For the third straight game the Wings lost a heartbreaker 4-3 which puts them in the almost impossible situation of battling back from 3-0 in the series. Last night the Wings put out another solid effort only to be thwarted by Jimmy Howard and his lack of playoff clutchness. I mean c'mon Howie, those goals were as soft as Adam Lambert at the Playboy Mansion. And believe me I wanna love you, I wanna give you your shot, but making huge saves that you have no business making and then letting in softies like those two last night is unacceptable. The goal to tie the score 3-3 was especially brutal because of the complete lack of an angle that it came from. Make those two saves and the Wings win this series. Don't make them and we're done like dinner.
But it's hard to put all the blame on a rookie goaltender. A lot of this is also due to the fact that the Wings didn't upgrade their skill level on the blue line at the trade deadline. This years team is noticeable less effective in jumping into the play on the offensive end than in years past and makes a lot of turnovers that we're not used to seeing as Wings fans. With our skill level up front we could probably get away with a shitty defense or a shitty performance by our goalie but definitely not both. And that's kinda what we've had so far this year and it's the reason the ship is sinking and the sharks are circling. I'm starting to think we needed a bigger boat.
PS - Dude next to me at the bar was livid about the Zetterberg goal being disallowed but the second he lifted his toe off the ice I knew it wasn't gonna count. Probably a good call.
