Detroitnews.com - Rima Fakih of Dearborn has just won the Miss USA title. Fakih, 24, recovered after nearly stumbling in her evening gown's long train and beat out four others in the final round Sunday. When asked how she felt about winning the crown, she said, "Ask me after I've had a pizza." During the interview portion, Fakih was asked whether she thought birth control should be paid for by health insurance, and she said she believed it should because it's costly. "I believe that birth control is just like every other medication even though it's a controlled substance," Fakih said. Later Sunday, from a celebration at a Las Vegas hotel, Fakih called supporters at a party at west Dearborn's La Pita restaurant. She spelled out Detroit as though she were chanting a cheer before her promoter took her off speaker phone.
It's about damn time we win something in the great state of Michigan and praise be to Allah for bringing out of the ashes of the Wings playoff collapse an Arab goddess from Dearborn that looks so much like a Kardasian sister that they should take Khloe out back and "Ole Yeller" her and then slip Rima in without missing a beat.
But this win isn't about Rima and her perfect body. No, it's about Michigan fighting back when we're against the ropes and down on the score card. It's about Rudy running back onto the practice field after quiting the team and then getting a standing ovation. And it's about Richard Belding taking the kids of Bayside on their white water rafting trip after his cooler brother, Rod, bailed on them to go bang a stewardess named Inga.
It's the classic underdog story about overcoming the shame associated with a first place finish in the Mojo in the Morning, pole dancing contest to eventually become Miss USA. It's the story of a true Michigan legend. Thank you Rima, thank you.
PS - She barely beat out Miss Arizona, who claims the only reason she lost is because they asked to see her "papers" right before she went on stage. Detroit has the second largest Arab-American population in the United States. See Arizona, you have to let immigrants into your state if you want a shot at Miss America. Its just that easy.
