Maurice Morris Gets Game Ball
Maurice Morris hasn't carried the ball in more than a month, but the Lions' third-string running back has found a home on special teams. Morris got a game ball for his play in Sunday's 37-25 win over the Redskins. He served in the role of personal protector on punts, made one bone-crushing tackle on return man Brandon Banks, and filled in for the first time as a blocker on kick and punt return when coverage specialist Isaiah Ekejiuba and safety C.C. Brown left with knee injuries. "I thought Maurice Morris played outstanding, and you didn't notice it on offense, but he played an outstanding game on special teams," coach Jim Schwartz said. "A lot of it was because he got thrown into a lot of roles that maybe he hasn't practiced. He went in and executed very well."
With all the excitement a Lions' win creates, it would be understandable if you overlooked the play of Maurice Morris on Sunday. He didn't touch the ball once but more than once had me saying "'dang Mo, don't be so mean". I'm glad the Freep gave him some love cause I totally blew past him yesterday in my recap. My B.
