1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back
This game was straight bonkers. There's just so much to talk about I don't know where to start. I guess let's take a trip to Alphonso Island to kick things off.
Alphonso's tendency to make big plays and celebrate his ass off has skyrocketed him to the top of my favorite Lion list and despite that tragic misplay of Braylon Edwards at the end of the first half I still think he had another really solid game and his energy is awesome. I hope Chris Houston's injury isn't serious because with these two opposite each other the Lions are better in the secondary than they've been in a long time.
But enough with this sunny day bullshit. This game had plenty of rain clouds. #1 on the list was when we put Suh in to kick the extra point after Hanson got hurt on a roughing the kicker call. Somebody please tell me I'm not the only one that isn't buying the Suh as our backup kicker nonsense they're trying to feed us. You're telling me that Nick Harris, who does nothing but fondle balls with Jason Hanson all day, isn't the most capable extra point kicker on the team in the case that Hanson goes down. I'm sure that every guy on the team can line up and kick an extra point in practice but that doesn't mean The Schwartz should let them have a go in what could've been the biggest win in the last 3 years. I think this whole scene was a case of the Lions getting over confident and trying to appease the fans by letting their golden boy do something outta the ordinary. Plus I'm not even convinced that Hanson was hurt beyond the point of kicking. The entire thing seemed like the Lions thought they got away with one like a kid pretending to be sick and staying home from school and they we going all the way through with the charade by throwing Suh out there to make the kick. But instead of Suh making the kick and the crowd going apeshit, the whole thing blew up in our face and essentially started the slide in that loss. Could be me just being paranoid, but I don't doubt it.
Another concerning issue in the game was Jahvid's continued lack of production. I'm still not flipping out about him not hitting on big runs, or even marginal runs for that matter but it's mostly because I didn't think he had holes to hit. On a majority of his runs there was nothing there, Barry couldn't even find his way outta that clusterfuck.
Stafford is made of glass. I'll hit more on this later in the week.
Revis completely shut down Calvin and this defensive play on the first attempt of the game was one of the best plays i've seen a corner make in my life. From that point on I knew we weren't gonna hear from Calvin much more.
With Calvin quiet we were hella lucky that Nate finally came out and did what we brought him in to do. He's been a great leader in the locker room and getting a few more games outta him like we got on Sunday will be nice over the rest of his contracted time in Detroit.
