Peterman Fined For Almost Chop Blocking Someone
Stephen Peterman was fined $10,000 for two chop-block penalties in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Jets, even though he never appeared to physically chop-block anyone. Peterman said officials told him he was flagged for "baiting" a defensive player when he was penalized on the opening drive and again in the third quarter. The second penalty was declined. "Hopefully I'll appeal the fine and see what they say," Peterman said. "I have to see what they come back with. Maybe it's something that we're doing wrong that we're not aware of, but nobody was engaged with the guys when I went down to cut them, which is what the rule states."
According to Rule 12, Section 2, Article 16 of the NFL rule book, chop-block fouls also can be called when an offensive player cut-blocks a defender -- takes him out by the legs -- while another lineman confronts him "in a pass-blocking posture but is not physically engaged," defined in the rule book as a "lure."
The NFL needs to get its shit together cause the Lions are getting raped by every crappy rule they got in the book. First Calvin didn't carry the ball back to the bench after his touchdown against the Bears and they called it an incomplete pass, and now Peterman is chopping guys who are being "lured" by our tackles. Sounds gay. But seriously this shit is getting ridiculous. It's worse than watching my dad ref high school hockey games and slap 10 minute misconduct penalties on half the team for not wearing their mouth guards.
