Lions Reach New Low and Protect 0-16 Infamy
I've been really mild mannered for the most part this season. I threw only a minor shit fit after the whole week 1 Calvin fiasco and even managed to hold it together when they got jacked up by the officials in the weeks that followed. My crowning moment was probably not killing someone after the Lions blew that 4th quarter lead against the Jets game two weeks ago. Christ, I'll probably even have a Nobel Peace Prize waiting on my doorstep when I get home. But what happened this past weekend in Buffalo pushed me over the edge and I don't know if I'm ever coming back. The brand of football we saw the Lions put out was that of a shitty Big Ten team, yeah I'm looking at you Michigan. The amount of mental errors, missed assignments, dropped passes, bad coaching decisions, and all the rest was astounding. I hardly know what to say about it. It's ludicrous that the Lions can continue to be this bad. Everywhere you look teams are turning things around and 7 of the first 10 teams in the draft last year are at least .500. Plus one of the ones that isn't just smacked you in the face on Sunday. Explain that shit to me please.
But where do you put the blame when so many guys are deserving? It's easy to throw it on the coaches cause that's where the buck stops. But are they responsible for repeated mental errors before the ball even gets snapped? It's not like Schwartz is over there condoning false start after false start. A lot of people would say he is too passive and doesn't hold them accountable in the moment. But does that type of in your face discipline even work on this level? I'd say that we've seen Rich Rod fail with just that mantra this year. So then it's on the players and you gotta bench 'em if they're not living up to NFL standards, right? The problem there is, who do you replace them with? I guess you could sit Peterman down and go with 4th Rd pick Jason Fox if you had to, but I have a feeling that if he was capable it already would've happened. No, the lack of depth on this team leaves the coaching staff short handed when it comes to solutions. To get this thing turned around in the next year or two you'll need guys to play up to or past their potential, and that just isn't happening here in Detroit.
In my opinion The Schwartz needs to let some heads roll behind closed doors and also put down that shield he has up during press conferences. Let a few guys have it and light a fire under their ass. Stay in control on the sidelines but don't sit back and just tell me you have to correct correctable errors. That's what Mariucci, Mornhinweg, and Marinelli did in the past and it got us nowhere. The Schwartz isn't going anywhere soon and in fact, thanks to that 0-16 season he isn't even on a hot seat, but he better be careful cause even though a 4-21 record is an improvement over the previous regime here in Detroit, it's still unacceptable in the modern NFL when you can go from bust to boom so quickly.
PS - I don't wanna brag but I told you the Lions would cover the spread. The flat screen is safe.
