Bitch Please, Lions Explode In Last 4 Minutes, Win 37-25
Yesterday the Lions proved a lot of things. Here were a few...
-They proved that they are a team on the rise. Everywhere you looked young guys were making plays. The future is promising and the present ain't too bad either.
-They proved they CAN win a tight game. This one felt just like any other Lions loss where they hung around but then they got stuffed on a 4th and 2 or let the opposition march down the field in the last minute. Today it didn't happen. Stafford found Calvin in the endzone on a 4th and 2, and the Lions caused a fumble on T-Rex Grossman that resulted in six for the Leos.
-They proved that there isn't a team in the league who is looking forward to facing this defensive front 4. Getting six sacks up front is just the tip of the iceberg. Vanden Bosch was absolutely everywhere yesterday and Suh was pretty much unblockable as well. I also couldn't have been more please with Cliff Avril. He was bull rushing people all day and also beating them on the outside. In conjunction with Suh, Williams, and Vanden Bosch, Avril could be the real deal.
-They proved they desperately missed DeAndre Levy. It felt so good to have a linebacker who was consistently in the right place and who made tackles.
-They proved that forcing the ball to Calvin is basically the right thing to do. Stafford looked bad in the first half but kept going to his big man who made play after play.
-They proved that Pettigrew will one day be a shining star. He's a great guy to have near the goalline but he's still making to many dumb mistakes early in his career for where he was drafted at. I know he'll be elite someday. Just won't be this year or next.
-They proved that Alphonso Smith is the real deal. It was tough watching Spievey get picked on all day but the secondary as a whole stepped up when they needed to and Alphonso Smith had the play of the game in my opinion when he intercepted the ball late in the 4th quarter. That was the drive I was certain Washington would score on. Alphonso made a brilliant play on the ball and the rest was history.
-They proved that unless Bradford gets the Rams to the playoffs, Suh should and will win Rookie of the Year. The guy is as dominate as they come. He was blowing by league veterans like they weren't even there yesterday and he plays with something to prove. I thought he was gonna take off McNabbs head when he clubbed him that one time.
-They proved that they have a legit return game with Stephan Logan back there. He has had three great return games in a row and has only really made one mistake thus far.
-They proved that Kevin Smith can still run the ball. With Best not busting the big play as often as predicted, Kevin Smith has done a very serviceable job stepping in to change things up.
And finally, they proved that they are no longer the doormat of the NFL. Life can be pretty cool sometimes.
