Tigers Offer Damon 2 Years, 14 Million
According to foxsports, the Tigers have offered Johnny Damon two different offers. One was a 2 year 14 million dollar deal and the other was a 1 year 7 million deal. Johnny Damon also has an offer from the Braves in the ballpark of 4.5 for 1 year. Illitch is on good terms with Damon's agent, Scott Boras and things seem to be leaning in the Tigers' favor.
The 7 million a year is a bit much considering Damon is in the twilight of his career but dude can definitely still hit and if the Tigers are still attempting to compete in the Central division, which is basically the Isle of Misfit Toys, than I dont mind it all that much.
If you look at it like a straight up trade of Granderson for Damon then I think you got it wrong. This is basically Granderson (who was making 6 million a year for the next 3 years), for Damon (7 million for 2 years) plus Max Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth, Phil Coke and Austin Jackson, who the Tigers got in the Granderson deal.
You also gotta consider what he is bringing with him to Detroit. Hey Michelle Damon...Boom Boom Pow.
