Corey "Lions Love Guys Named" Williams, Might Be On His Way To Detroit
The Lions are close to completing a trade with the Cleveland Browns for veteran defensive tackle Corey Williams, a league source confirmed Thursday night. Williams, 29, seemed to be a poor fit at defensive end in the Browns' 3-4 defensive scheme, and with a $1.7 million roster bonus due this month the Browns may have opted to release him. According to ESPN, the Lions will give up a "low draft pick," possibly one of their two fifth-rounders in 2010.
In case you haven't noticed, I basically want the Lions to go after anyone and everyone in the free agent market and Corey Williams is no exception. Adding some veteran leadership on the defensive front would go a long way in helping Suh/McCoy acclimate and if the Lions end up with Vanden Bosch from Tennessee as well then I think stopping the run may actually become a strength of ours instead of the gushing wound it is now.
PS - The Schwartz is quietly attempting to turn the Lions D-line into that Tennessee front from two years ago that was 12-1 and fuckin unstoppable.
