MOUNT MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Former Michigan State basketball star and Detroit Pistons player Mateen Cleaves has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. He recently joined Fox Sports Detroit as a Pistons analyst. The Genesee County sheriff's department says Cleaves was arrested Saturday in Mount Morris Township and jailed in nearby Flint, then released. Defense lawyer Frank Manley says Cleaves drove because of an emergency involving his son. He says Cleaves knows he's a role model and hopes people reserve judgment until more facts come out.
Another former Michigan athlete falls hard for a life of Lamborghini Living. It seems like every other day we got someone else drinking and driving all over Michigan. But can you fuckin blame any of these guys though? It's just a lethal concoction, being in motor city and having to drink away your worries in these hard economic times. I mean Mateen goes from being the most recognizable face in the state of Michigan to being a NBA nobody. Then they give him the MarcUM treatment and make him cover the trash that the Pistons put on the floor each night.
I for one feel for you Mateen. And nice work telling the cop that you had an emergency with your son. I'm definitely gonna give you the benefit of the doubt until the investigation reveals that the emergency was your son needed more raspberry vodka for the post prom party in your basement. In fact you shouldn't be charged at all, you should be given the father of the year award.
