You gotta be fist fuckin me with that game last night. I sat there watching it knowing that if the Wings didn't go up 4-2 when they had the chance that they were gonna get screwed. I've been saying it since game one was stolen from them that you you can't go into San Jose and leave it in the refs hands. Cause if you do your gonna get fucked with no goodbye. And that's how I feel right now. Like I fell in love, bang'd out, fell asleep, and then woke up alone. Now all that's left is the walk of shame back to Detroit.
But looking at this game, I thought the Wings played well. Don't get me wrong they were definitely outplayed by the Sharks but Jimmy made the big saves early when he had to in order to keep them in it and then they got a bit lucky on the Datysuk goal. But that's what playoff hockey is about. You don't have to outplay teams you just have to outscore them in the end and for the first two plus periods the Wings did exactly what they had to do to win that game. But they just left it too close and the refs couldn't fuckin resist making up a phantom holding penalty on Bertuzzi and then busting Kronwall for a questionable hooking call that would normally get overlooked in most playoff games, especially with a team already down 5 on 4 late in a game. But the possibility of another 5 on 3 against the Wings in the third which could result in the deciding goal was just too enticing for the officiating crew not to call. And to make it worse it wasn't even a pretty fuckin goal that they scored 5 on 3. They only scored because the puck was loose in the crease and they had 5 guys in there and we only had 3. That's it. No tape to tape pass, no one timer top shelf. Just throw a mass of humanity at the fuckin net because the Wings have no chance of stopping it with two guys in the box. Thanks stripes. It's been real.
But there are gonna be people out there that say, "well Joeyblueskies is just a Wings slappy and is ignoring that the sharks got some shitty calls too" and they are right about the bad calls going both ways. The sharks caught some terrible calls, most notably, the boarding call where no contact was even made and the goalie interference which for some reason was the special of the day. Get two hooking penalties and get a goalie interference for free. Christ. But the frequency with which the calls were going against the Wings, the momentum killing timing of them, and the back to back, overlapping nature of them was the main difference between our calls and theirs. Completely incomparable in my mind. Like what the hell is next? The Wings start getting handed 10 minute misconduct penalties for not wearing their mouth guards like back in PeeWees?
This is just total bushleague shit and I can't explain it. I don't know if this particular reffing crew has it out for the Wings, or if it goes deeper and Bettman doesn't want another Pens/Wings final (which I think would be good for the NHL) or what. But sure as shit something is up. I'd be perfectly fine with the Wings losing this thing because they get out played or out hit or get beat by a younger, hungrier team. I just don't want them to sit back and be cordial about getting fucked in the ass by the refs. That doesn't sit okay with me.
