Obamo Does Michigan

I was back in Ann Arbor this weekend for the Lady Friend's sister's graduation and was fortunate enough to hear Barack Obama speak at the commencement. Regardless of your political views it was truly a profound moment in Ann Arbor and Michigan history. The buzz within the Big House was unlike anything I've experienced during any football game during my four years at U of M. You were hard pressed to find anyone that wasn't on the verge of tears as Obama walked to the podium and accepted his honorary degree before kicking off his commencement speech. The important issues that he discussed are greater than any we have faced before and the state of Michigan has felt them more than any state in the country. As you looked around the crowd filled with autoworkers, school teachers, and entrepreneurs you could feel a tangible connection between Obama's message and the spirit they bring with them to work each day. His message of collaboration in a time of despair was extremely well received and drowned out the many tea party protesters chanting outside the gates of the Big House.

I felt truly honored to be a part of such a hope filled moment and besides my trip to Rick's Cafe, it was the highlight of my trip back to Ann Arbor, the greatest city in the US.

And tonight I leave you with the resounding words from Mary Sue Coleman that every U of M grad remembers.

For today, goodbye. For tomorrow, good luck. And forever, Go Blue!

  1. Other than Obama's racial handicap, he is pretty impressive speaker. However, McCain would have been a better get for UM. McCain appeals to the jews, Obama does not. Straight facts for ya ball gamers!
