D-Train Pulls Outta The Station
Detroit News - The Dontrelle Willis experiment in Detroit is officially over. The left-hander was traded by the Tigers along with cash to the Arizona Diamondbacks for right-hander Billy Buckner. The Tigers designated Willis for assignment on Saturday and had 10 days to trade him or pass him through waivers. He was making $12 million per year. "We are paying a substantial portion of that salary," said Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski, adding a couple clubs showed interest. Willis was part of the blockbuster trade in which the Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera from the Florida Marlins in December 2007. Outfielder Cameron Maybin and pitcher Andrew Miller were the key pieces Detroit sent to Florida for Cabrera and Willis. Willis signed a three-year, $29 million contract extension. "I'm just excited to get a fresh start," Willis said on a conference call.
Son of a fuckin bitch. How many 10 million dollar anchors can we cut loose before we sink? This is starting to get a bit ridiculous. First Sheffield, necessary. Then Robertson, questionable. Now Dontrelle, pathetic. I wish I was so bad at blogging that someone would pay me 10 million to go somewhere else and do it. Take a look at some of these bullet points that the Detroit News put up...
1. "He thanked us, we thanked him. That was pretty much it" - Dave Dombrowski.
Thanks for walking everybody, Dontrelle. Thanks for paying me 12 million bucks to walk everybody, Dave. FML
2, Willis did not stick around to speak with the media.
I got a question for Dontrelle. "How does my makeup look? Cause I like to look pretty when you're fuckin me."
3. "Sad day, great teammate, I applaud his efforts. But it came down to the uncertainty of what we were going to get from him" - Jim Leyland.
Theres never been uncertainty with Dontrelle. Since he put on a Tigers uniform you could be certain that he was gonna take a giant dump all over the mound.
4. "He's close. His career isn't over. He'll make it back with another team" - Gerald Laird
Well said, from a guy whose career is over. What are you batting now G-money? A cool .180
5. The Tigers owe Willis about $8 million for the rest of this season.
Illitch has paid Sheffield, Robertson, and now Dontrelle, roughly 20 million dollars to go away. Man, the Lady Friend bitches when I buy a new pair of shoes.
