Hey Dontrelle! Wait For Me!
Freep - Tigers officials have decided they can’t wait any longer for the bottom third of the batting order to shake its season-long lethargy. On Saturday, manager Jim Leyland said catcher Alex Avila would begin to play more in the No. 8 spot over Gerald Laird. After today’s game, Leyland announced the club was letting go shortstop Adam Everett and calling up Danny Worth from Triple-A Toledo to replace him. Everett, 33, hit .185 this season with no home runs and four RBIs. Although Worth hit well in his recent debut stint in the majors, Leyland said: “This move is based solely on the fact we didn’t see anything happening with Adam.”
So there goes another 1.55 million that we'll never see again. I guess it's not really that big of a deal though considering we are in the business of paying people to do nothing. The Tigers should consider paying my laundry lady to play shortstop cause I swear half the time I get that shit back and its got more spots on it than before I sent it in.
With Everett's departure, the Tigers now have more or less a shortstop by committee. It looks like time will be split between Ramon Santiago and rookie Danny Worth who had a decent run during his first stint with the team. Neither of these guys are the answer and it's obvious that a major upgrade is needed at the shortstop position if the Tigers are thinking playoffs. Can anyone say, Hanley Ramirez?
PS - Adam Everett should've approached the Wings about taking over for Nick Lidstrom at a much cheaper rate. They're frickin clones of each other.
