I'm not going to completely clown on the NHL finals like my bro Mmase did a few days back. Truth is, I'm into it. Call me a little nuts. I don't care. I hate Chicago, and am finding some enjoyment in rooting for Pronger for the first time in my fan career. Couple that with the Slapshot-esque roster philly has put together, this is entertaining hockey.
What I am annoyed about is all the reports about how this is the highest rated this, the most selling that, yada yada yada. Well no shit Sherlock. You got one of the largest US markets realizing hockey is more than a card drinking game. I was listening to Chicago radio on my drive from the city up to Milwaukee, and these jokers were talking about public enemy number 1, Chris Pronger. They acted like this guy was a rookie, and could barely pronounce his name right. I've been hating this guy since the age of 10. I remember when he took the puck to the heart in the playoffs, and got stretchered off. I was so jacked, I ate an entire bag of twizzlers because I thought he was dead. You know the Blackhawks haven't sniffed the playoffs the last decade if they don't know who Chris Pronger is.
Another reason why the NHL playoffs kicks ass, because the NBA blows. Are people really entertained by this? This shit has been dragged out beyond belief. I watched a "river runs through it" last night instead of game 1. Side note, that movie was metaphorically way over my head. Was the lesson not to run your mouth at the local tavern, or you'll get your face busted with the butt end of a revolver? Because I already new that shit, and it still doesn't stop me. Ask that juice head in South Haven that was rocking a White Sox Thome jersey shirt. Shit, I laid into that guy. Anygay, I'd rather be watching preseason slamball.
Stay focused. The real reason for this post is to remember how great hockey used to be. For however long it takes, I'm going to post game by game highlights of the Wings incredible 1998 stanley cup run. This is the run where Osgood let in neutral zone goals in three consecutive series. Classic. I'll let you watch the drama unfold for yourself.....
