Brennan Boesch lifted the Tigers to a much needed win last night which puts them 3.5 games back of the Twins in the Central. Galarraga came out and pitched relatively well considering he was coming off the heels of a perfect game. He didn't have the same movement on a lot of his pitches that he had last week but still went 5 innings giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, with 2 K's. Throughout this solid performance the Tigers bats remained silent, until the 7th when Ramon Santiago got a lucky base hit up the middle and Johnny Damon walked, setting the table for a Rayburn 2 RBI double. Miguel then received the Barry Bonds treatment and was intentionally walked which brought "Who's the Boesch" to the plate. Prior to this at bat, Brennan had K'd 3 times and was looking real foolish on a number of curveballs. After fouling off several tough pitches he showed off his major league eye by laying off a wicked 2-2 slider. The next pitch was a fastball that he hit harder than Tito Ortiz hit Jenna Jamison. The three run shot put the Tigers up 6-2 and the very next batter, Carlos Guillen, turned on a pitch inside that he put into the right field stands making the score 7-2. Brad Thomas went 2 scoreless, and Zoom Zoom went 1 giving the ball to Valverde for a mow 'em down 9th inning.
But back to Brennan Boesch for a second. He's been absolutely murdering the ball lately and that 411 foot missile he hit to dead center kept a six game hit streak alive. In Brennan's first 36 games he's batting .341 with 6 homeruns and 28 RBIs. These numbers are strikingly similar to another former Tiger who had a real hot start in Jim Leyland's first year as manager. You know who I'm talking about? That's right, we're talking about Big Red, Chris Shelton. So the real question becomes, is Brennan Boesch the real deal or will he burn out just like Chris Shelton?
PS - Big Red is disgusting looking and Franklin batting gloves mean you are a straight no talent douche.
