Kirk Maltby Should Be Given Bertuzzi's Spot In The Line-up Tonight
Todd Bertuzzi skated this morning and said he’ll play tonight, when the Red Wings open the 2010-11 season against Anaheim at Joe Louis Arena. Bertuzzi missed almost a week of practices nursing a sore back, but two practices have left him ready to go. “I was able to do enough out there to test it,” he said. “It feels actually pretty good right now, so I’m pretty happy with it.” Bertuzzi is expected to play on a line with Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen. The rest of the lineup is Pavel Datsyuk-Henrik Zetterberg-Tomas Holmstrom, Jiri Hudler-Mike Modano-Dan Cleary, and Drew Miller-Darren Helm-Patrick Eaves.
Rumor has it that Todd Bertuzzi is questionable for the season opener tonight against Anaheim which means we might have an extra spot in the line up. Even if Todd is healthy enough to go tonight I think the Wings should have him sit and give his spot to Redwing great Kirk Maltby. Maltby recently found out that he won't have a regular roster spot this season and can play out the season in Grand Rapids if he so chooses. Many think he'll just politely decline the demotion and retire after an amazing career, including thirteen years of service to the Wings and four Stanley Cup titles. Why not give him one last chance to put on a show for the home crowd and let the fans at the Joe send him off right. Maltby is one of those beloved athletes in Detroit that has been faithful, hardworking, and productive. People in this city have loved him from his first days on the grind line because he reminds us of ourselves. I hope the Wings make the decision to put him in the lineup tonight because he's deserved it and if I was at the game tonight you better believe I'd be outta my seat cheering any time Malt touches the puck.
