Wings Defense will be Without Ralaski for 3-4 Weeks After Getting Knee Scope'd
Detroitnews.com - Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday and will be out three or four weeks. The Red Wings called up Doug Janik to replace Rafalski. Janik, 30, was to play Tuesday night against the Avalanche at Joe Louis Arena. Rafalski also had back surgery last summer. Janik played in 13 games with the Wings last season, earning two assists. Janik will pair with Niklas Kronwall, while Brad Stuart goes with Nick Lidstrom. Babcock will keep the Ruslan Salei-Jonathan Ericsson defensive pairing. Said Janik: "I'm looking forward to it. Just play simple and have a good game tonight."
Rafalski is debatably our best defensman and having him out for nearly a month definitely isn't ideal. But with Kronwall, Lidstrom, and Salei on the back end I know we'll survive. I just hope we don't get crippled by injuries and have this Wings' season turn into last years where lesser talented individuals are battling to just make the playoffs. If we stay healthy there is no reason we can't put up 120 pts though.
