All Hail Denard
Whew, what a relief for big blue. Getting that W to start the season was huge for this team's confidence, and watching the Denard Robinson show which started early and continued all game long was something special. I knew that Denard's legs would be crucial against Uconn but I honestly didn't think he would have his way like that against those linebackers. Yesterday one thing did became abundantly clear, Denard Robinson has world class speed and he'll be the fastest player on the field no matter who Michigan plays each Saturday. Watching him run conjured up flashes of Pat White and Steve Slaton under Rich Rod at West Virginia. The offense as a whole looked much improved and the maturation of players like Shaw, Odoms, and Smith was palpable. The offensive line even looked solid and I was impressed on how quickly they were getting out in front of Denard and opening holes for him. But don't get it twisted, one guy will be pulling the cart this season and that's Robinson. Now the question becomes can he stay healthy and maintain the level of play we saw on Saturday when good teams put 8 in the box. If he can't, we can expect to see our boy Tate Focier in the near future. I just don't ever remember him being this tan.
I love the way Rich didn't even tell him he was third on the depth chart until Denard went down. That's some cold blooded shit right there. Dude totally thought he was going in the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Blue looked decent. They didn't give up a ton of points but Uconn was more responsible for the lack of points than the Wolverines were. They had a bunch of dropped balls and the biggest play of the game came when J.T. Floyd knocked the ball loose on 4th & 1 to preserve a 14 point lead. Had Uconn scored there, and they already had the first down prior to the ball coming loose, there would've been a drastic momentum shift. Props to the D for bending but not breaking.
PS - Enjoy the game highlights...
