cbslocal.com - Jim Joyce says he’s apprehensive and excited for his assignment as the plate umpire for Tigers right-hander Armando Galarraga’s start at Comerica Park tonight against the Baltimore Orioles. “It’s not just another game — that’s obvious,” Joyce said. “Armando and I are both professionals. We both have a job to do. I’m sure Armando will do his job to the best of his ability, and I’ll do mine to the best of my ability.” Joyce and Galarraga will be involved in the same game for the first time since June 2. With two outs in the ninth that night at Comerica Park against the Indians, Joyce’s missed call at first base cost Galarraga a perfect game.
This is a joke right? There's no way they're making Galarraga look this douche in the face, AGAIN. I don't know about you but I'm still livid about this and I can't believe the MLB would put Joyce behind the plate of a game that Galarraga is pitching. I understand Galarraga stepping up and forgiving him the day after because that's what men do, but stop making them carpool to the fuckin stadium together. Jesus, you know how pissed Armando has to be these days? Waking up at a Travelodge in Toledo a few weeks after you throw a perfect game has to stretch your sportsmanship about as far as it could go. I think Galarraga and Avila need to work something out where Alex jumps outta the way during a pitch and Joyce takes it square in the face.
