Jansen, a Michigan alumnus, said he received a phone call this morning telling him the Lions were going in a different direction. Gosder Cherilus has won the starting job at right tackle, and Corey Hilliard and rookie Jason Fox are the backup tackles. “For backups, they wanted to get a little bit younger and, obviously, I am not young,” the 34-year-old Jansen said. “They felt I played well and probably played well enough to start in a lot of places, but just due to numbers and the guys that they already have and Gos being a first-round pick, it just didn’t work out in Detroit.” Jansen, a Clawson native, said he’ll look back fondly on his one season in Detroit. He wants to see what interest he draws from other NFL teams before deciding whether to retire or go into broadcasting.
It's been a long road for my boy Gosder but it looks like he's finally earned the right tackle spot that he was drafted to play back in 2008. It would appear from the release of Jon Jansen that the Lions are confident in Gosder as the man on the right side and that they also like rookie Jason Fox enough to think he can fill in as a backup if need be. I for one am sad to see Janson go because of the stability he brought to the line but in my heart I've always been a Gosder guy since the first day of training camp in '08 when he mistakenly reported to the Detroit Zoo instead of Allen Park because he saw a sign for a lion training camp that the zoo was putting on.

Forget Yzerman shelfing that one from the blue line over Casey's shoulder or Stafford throwing that game winning touchdown with the dislocated should against Cleveland. It just doesn't get any better than Joba the Hut on the couch saying, "Who the fuck is that? Huhu...who the fuck IS that? Huhuhuhuhuhu...who the fuck is Gosder Cherilus?"
