Blake Griffin "Jumps the Shark" at the NBA Slam Dunk Contest
For those who don't know, the term "jumping the shark" is an idiom used to denote when a particular production effort has surpassed its relevance and reached a point of decline in quality that it is incapable of recovering from. The phrase comes from a climactic scene in Happy Days where a water-skiing Fonzie, wearing swimming trunks and his leather jacket, jumps over a confined shark, answering a challenge to demonstrate his bravery. And if this dunk wasn't the ultimate "jump the shark" moment for the NBA slam dunk contest, then I don't know what is. I mean let's just call out this steaming pile of a dunk for what it really is. Griffin jumped from the bottom of the circle over the rear end of a Mazda Miata. La-dee Freakin' Da! My boy Brent Barry would've cleared a stretch limo back in '96 and he's even whiter than Blake Griffin.
I'm 100% serious here cause this dunk is the ultimate waving of the white flag on inventive ideas, and if the NBA wants to continue this abortion of an event they better hire me on as a consultant. My first idea, have Gilbert Arenas shoot an alley oop out of the air like a clay pigeon and then let Delonte West flush the wounded duck down with two hands. Boom. Nothing but 10s.
