Harbaugh Offered 7-8 Million By Dolphins
Detroitnews.com - Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News said "indications are" Harbaugh, the coach at Stanford who's also been on Michigan's wish list as it looks to replace Rich Rodriguez, is leaning heavily toward the Dolphins' offer, which is in the $7 million to $8 million range. The Dolphins are owned by Michigan alum Stephen Ross, and, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, he asked Michigan if it would be OK if the Dolphins pursue him. Michigan, apparently, gave him the green light.
Well, with this little nugget of info it's fuckin official that Harbaugh is off the table. If Miami is willing to make him the highest paid coach in football then we gotta get over the fact that we wanted to have all his babies and respect that he is taking his talents to South Beach. The odd thing about this is that the Dolphins are owned by Stephen M. Ross. Yes, that Stephen M. Ross of the Stephen M. Ross University of Michigan Business School. He's the university's biggest athletic booster and by all accounts has done a lot to help the university. So why make an offer on the one guy that Michigan and it's fans want so desperately? The conspiracy theorists are saying that University president Mary Sue Coleman has never forgiven Harbaugh for his comments about Michigan's academic standards that he made a few years ago and Ross is making an offer to cover up the fact that Michigan never really wanted Harbaugh in the first place. I personally think this is absurd and anyone who believes it is crazier than a shit house rat. No chance in hell Michigan passes on the perfect candidate and the hottest coach in all of football (NFL or College) just because Mary Sue is peeved about some comments made years ago. The other group of looney toons are the ones who think that Ross and Coleman have some set up where Miami outbids all the NFL contenders and then reneges on the deal so that Michigan can swoop in and steal him. Again any Michigan fan who believes either of these theories doesn't have a brain and should've gone to MSU. The fact of the matter is that Harbaugh is a competitive dude who has tasted the NFL Kool-Aid as a player. Sure it would be great to return to your alma mater as the conquering hero and restore their once proud name but that at the very least is a 3-5 year job and one that has the possibility of being there down the road even if his run in the NFL is unsuccessful. Throw in the fact that Miami is backing up the Brinks truck and it's no surprise he politely declined.
