Suhnami Hits Lions Camp
The Detroit Lions have reached a contract agreement with defensive tackle and No. 2 overall pick Ndamukong Suh, who is expected to end a four-day holdout and join the team for practice Wednesday. According to a person with knowledge of the negotiations, it is a five-year deal. The NFL’s Web site reported the deal is worth $68 million, with $40 million guaranteed. The guaranteed money is less than the $41.7 million the Lions paid quarterback Matthew Stafford last year, when he was the No. 1 pick and signed a six-year, $78-million deal. The guaranteed money had been a sticking point in the negotiations.
It's not like anyone thought Suh wouldn't sign with the Lions. This little song and dance was all about not giving him as much money as Stafford. That was it. If you could get "A Boy Named Suh" to sign for less guaranteed money than the prodigal son then it was a done deal. Now it's all up to Schwartz to integrate Suh and turn him into a wrecking ball. And that's just what we need him to be. Anyone who thinks Suh is gonna get double digit sack totals hasn't been to the rodeo before. Homeboy is gonna clog the middle for a year while the rest of our defense learns to make tackles. And hopefully by next year, anyone worthy of a starting spot will have gotten better and we can address any additional holes through free agency or the draft. But that's long term. In the mean time we can all get off to the thought of Suh blowing up Raola all camp long.
