What's Good For The Goose, Is Good For The Michigander

Freep - In his 10-minute victory speech Tuesday, Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Snyder referred to "Michiganders" coming together or working together or winning together four times. In fact, he uses Michigander in almost every stump speech, in answers to questions, and on his Web site. But many fellow citizens think they're Michiganians. Those include Gov. Jennifer Granholm and at least her two immediate predecessors: John Engler and Jim Blanchard.

So this is straight Ali vs Fraiser, Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling, Tyson vs Lewis type of smackdown we have on our hands. Okay maybe not the Tyson vs Lewis, but you get the point. We gotta get our shit together as a people and decide which side we are on here. I'm as old school as they come so Michigander has always been my nomanclature of choice but I'm up for hearing what the people have to say. So who you got?

My Wikipedia Research Indicates:

The web site of the Michigan Historical Center uses Michiganian. Michiganian has a long history. It is the term used for the state's citizens in The Collections of the Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society since the 1870s .

The term Michigander came about when Abraham Lincoln accused the Democrats of campaigning on the former President Andrew Jackson's coattails by exaggerating their military accomplishments and as an insult combined Michigan with gander to form a nickname that made Cass sound foolish like a goose.

The Free Press uses the term Michigander, the Detroit News uses the term Michiganian.

Less common alternatives include Michiganer, Michiganite, Michiganese, and Michigine. Residents in the Upper Peninsula more typically refer to themselves as Yoopers instead.

Well one thing's for sure, if anyone ever calls me a Michiganese I'll murder their ass on the spot. But now it's time for you to weigh in on the poll and whichever term wins will forever be gospel on JBS. Make it happen.

PS - Would people buy a "What's Good For The Goose, Is Good For The Michigander" t-shirt? Cause I just made that shit up.
