Does Delmas Really Need Surgery?

ALLEN PARK -- Second-year Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas still isn't practicing because of a groin injury and now there are rumors that he might need surgery and his season is in jeopardy. However, a source close to the situation has called those rumors "inaccurate.'' Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is expected to address the situation following today's morning workout. At the start of training camp, Schwartz said Delmas was being held out because he was still healing from a groin injury that he suffered in the Organized Team Activities. Schwartz indicated that Delmas was only sidelined because he needed to get in better condition before he hit the field. Schwartz said Delmas wasn't able to work out prior to camp because he didn't want to aggravate the groin injury.

In a word the answer is no. Just look at that fuckin picture and tell me this guy is gonna let a pulled groin keep him down for the season. It is obviously a risk putting him out there with an injury that could get tweaked but that is kinda the position we are in. Delmas was hands down our best player on either side of the ball last year and in his first year became the vocal leader. Without him on the field we are essentially back where we were at the beginning of last season and banking on another rookie to carry the defense. But the real concern here is not whether Delmas will start the season on the field, because Schwartz says he will and I believe him, but rather can he stay healthy the entire season? Cause although we have some players now, we got shit for depth and if he goes down we'll be begging Daniel Bullocks to come back.
