Remember Those Lebron To The Pistons Rumors From A Year Ago? Bahahaha

VS

At one point in the second quarter, with the Pistons leading by 15, I turned to Motay and asked him if he would take the Pistons +6. He wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t have either. It was just way too obvious that no matter how well the Pistons played the Cavs were going to be way too much for them. As it turned out the Cavs got them by 7.

The real news from the game, though, was the startling image of Rodney Stuckey going to the bench for a timeout in the fourth quarter and promptly collapsing into the arms of a trainer, apparently with a seizure. Stuckey was rushed to hospital and kept over night.

After the game multiple Pistons expressed how they were disturbed by what had happened to Stuckey, and emphasized how much they wanted to pull together and win one for him. Well that was just going to be too much last night. Beating LeBron and the Cavs at full strength is one thing, beating him after seeing one of your buddies keel over on the sideline is just too much. I wouldn’t be able to keep focused, and neither could the Pistons.

Hopefully this is just a freak occurrence for Rodney and we see him back in the starting line up soon

And The Survey Says...

I apologize for my lack of action yesterday on Joeyballgame but I had a monster 6th grade basketball game that I was preparing for and X's and O's have become my life. After winning an OT thriller on Thursday with a free throw with .04 on the clock I had to make sure we didn't have an emotional let down last night. I totally unleashed the dogs and Mike D, my 6th grade Lindsey Hunter, sealed another 1 point victory with a steal on their final possession. This had to be the rowdiest 6th grade basketball crowd ever and I had to tell parents to get off the court several times during the game so we didn't get tech'd up. Playing in our gym is basically the Cameron Indoor Stadium of Bed Stuy Brooklyn. Best moment was a parent screaming ball don't lie after one of our kids missed a free throw. Totallyfuckinbelievable

Anyway, lets get down to brass tax cause I know people have put their lives on halt in anticipation of the caption contest winner being announced. I was incredibly impressed with the quality and quantity of our responses on the first ever caption contest and have decided to make this a weekly thing so keep it coming Ballgamers.

Without further ado I give you our bronze, silver, and gold medal winners...

BRONZE - Jonathon

This much love for The Mountie? Its like the Canadians completely forgot what The Big Bossman did to him at Summer Slam '91.

Comments - Not sure who Jonathon even is but I love that I don't know. Keep sending this shit to everyone you know people. Its the only way I'm gonna get famous. I'm talking like I want my grandma to hear about Joeyballgame from some dude at the senior citizen community center.

SILVER - Justin

After arguing over what should be included in their closing ceremony for years, the Canadian Olympic Committee gave up and just inflated everything listed under the Famous For tab on the country's Wikipedia page.

Comments - This was the most clever and well thought out caption in the contest. I would look for big things from this guy in upcoming contests. Well done.

GOLD - Eileen

Paul Bunyan's wet dream.

Comments - And the winner is Eileen! I love that she didn't pull any punches with this one. Just went for it. And we all know that Paul Bunyan beats off to giant beavers all day anyway so it just works on a shit ton of levels. Straight home run with this one, Eileen. Amazing

The Joeyballgame Caption Contest Prize Pack will be shipped out to Eileen early next week and will include a number of items, most notably my Bobby Gonzalez (head coach of Seton Hall) bobblehead. Enjoy Eileen, you earned it.

Brain Trust Gets Busy

Detroitnews - The Lions promised to strike quickly as the clock struck midnight, signaling the start of free agency and a new league year in the NFL. Head coach Jim Schwartz was paying a visit to the home of defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch in Nashville promptly at 12:01 a.m., trying to lock up the team's primary target. And barely two hours into free agency, the team reportedly had one of the league's first free-agent deals done, acquiring receiver Nate Burleson. Burleson agreed to terms with the Lions on a five-year, $25 million deal, including $11 million guaranteed, a league source confirmed.

Damn Schwartz, fuckin 12:01am? I've heard people say that they will be on the phone the first minute of free agency trying to lock people down, but camping out in a tent in Vanden Bosch's front yard is taking it to the next level. I just hope Schwartz went all out and had a marching band and Roary doing back hand springs on the front lawn the second the clock struck midnight. Cause a new regime means a new way of doing things, and we all know that at 12:01am of past years Millen was watching year old Big Mike Williams game tape from USC.

In another quick striking move, the Lions agreed to a 5 year deal with Nate Burleson hoping to give Calvin some much needed help on the outside. I don't think Nate is anything special and no way I would want him as my #1 but if he doesn't have to line up across from top corners all year he should be able to make plays, which in turn will help Calvin get open more. But I would still take Scotty Anderson in his prime over Nate Burleson any day.

Scotty definitely still made this catch even after getting Hiroshima'd by this Packer DB

Corey "Lions Love Guys Named" Williams, Might Be On His Way To Detroit

The Lions are close to completing a trade with the Cleveland Browns for veteran defensive tackle Corey Williams, a league source confirmed Thursday night. Williams, 29, seemed to be a poor fit at defensive end in the Browns' 3-4 defensive scheme, and with a $1.7 million roster bonus due this month the Browns may have opted to release him. According to ESPN, the Lions will give up a "low draft pick," possibly one of their two fifth-rounders in 2010.

In case you haven't noticed, I basically want the Lions to go after anyone and everyone in the free agent market and Corey Williams is no exception. Adding some veteran leadership on the defensive front would go a long way in helping Suh/McCoy acclimate and if the Lions end up with Vanden Bosch from Tennessee as well then I think stopping the run may actually become a strength of ours instead of the gushing wound it is now.

PS - The Schwartz is quietly attempting to turn the Lions D-line into that Tennessee front from two years ago that was 12-1 and fuckin unstoppable.

Drop It Like It's Hot

After doing constant draft analysis over the last few weeks I came to the conclusion that the Lion's greatest position of need has to be at Cheerleader. We have never had cheerleaders or dancers or anything shaking its' ass in tight spandex to help bring a little excitement to the game. The atmosphere at Ford Field is like being at a mall. I blame Millen but he is gone now so there is no reason Mayhew shouldn't go out and draft some T&A in the early third round. These four ladies would be a solid foundation to build the squad around. Not to mention that bitch in the black shirt could probably play D-line next to Suh if Sammy Lee Hill goes down. Chick is a straight run stopper. Time to make moves.

Thanks to Mallard for the clip

Yoosta Be A Yooper: Bart Yoo Betcha!

Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who has long raised objections to health care reform based on his anti-abortion stance, said on Thursday that he and several other House members plan to dig in their heels again and may not vote for the final bill. We're not going to vote for this bill with that kind of language," Stupak said on ABC's "Good Morning America," a reference to language included in the Senate health bill that Stupak and 11 other Democrats say is not tough enough when it comes to limiting federal funding for abortions.

It's not very often that we get all political here at Joeyballgame but I had to mention that our one and only Yooper Representative, Bart Stupak is becoming sort of a big deal these days. Bart's face has been all over the place because he is causing a big stink about his ethical issues with abortion and is prepared to vote down the entire health care bill if it doesn't very clearly limit federal funding for abortions.

I for one hope health care gets passed but I also understand a man's right to his opinion and I respect him for at least sticking to it when shit has gotten rough. It doesn't surprise me though, I've known Bart since I was like 2 and dude has always been a beast. We used to go down to Milwaukee and go to the Tiger/Brewers series back when they were in the American League. My dad and Bart would get jagged up and toss me and my brothers from wall to wall all over our hotel room at the Pfister. Shit was a lot of fun.

PS - The Tigers would always stay at the Pfister too and one year we had a ball signed by the entire active roster, i mean everybody from Skeeter Barnes to Sparky Anderson. And when I asked Cecil to sign it he pulled a huge stoagie out of his mouth and told me to hang on. Then he checked out of the hotel and ran his fat ass right past me and onto the bus. I'm still pissed about it.
