Lions Trade 6th Round Pick to Seattle For Lawrence Jackson

Freep - The Lions added an insurance policy to their improved defensive line Wednesday, trading a 2011 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks for defensive end Lawrence Jackson. A first-round pick out of Southern Cal in 2008, Jackson was considered a disappointment despite starting 24 games over the past two seasons. Jackson had 4 1/2 sacks in 16 games last year. He became expendable after Seattle traded for Kentwan Balmer of the 49ers earlier this week. Jackson is in the third year of a five-year deal that will pay him a base salary of $525,000 in 2010, $715,000 in 2011 and $915,000 in 2012. On Tuesday, the Lions cut defensive end Jason Hunter, who started nine games last year. Jackson, who turns 25 this month, projects as a backup to Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch. The Lions had an extra sixth-round pick in 2011 from a trade with the Eagles

This is the type of move I wanna see the Lions making. It's not groundbreaking but it will make the Lions better at a cheap price and it is one of the thousand things that a team needs to do in the off season to be competitive. Adding a guy who was a 1st round pick in 2008 for a 6th rounder in 2011 is well worth the risk. The physical tools are there and Lawrence Jackson seemed to fall out of favor in Seattle for one reason or another but that doesn't mean he can't get a good bull rush off the end while Suh is getting double teamed inside. Come end of the season you won't remember where we got him from or for what price but he'll have 5 sacks and be a name that you wanna keep around on the D-line for the following year. And that is more than you can say for Ikaika Alama-Francis or the other handful of clowns that have been cut in recent years.

PS - Any dude who will get behind and fuck Favre and a guy named Booty is okay in my book. Wait, that came off wrong.

  1. I think the real question here is, would Matt Millen have made this move?

    The answer?

Yes he would have, on the sole condition that Lawrence Jackson could position as WR!

    Go Lions
