Stafford Out A Possible 6 Weeks?

With Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford suffering an injury to his throwing shoulder in the regular-season opener, the early word filtering out of the Detroit organization is that the team believes Stafford will miss two-to-three weeks, at a minimum. Depending on the results of the MRI, the team fears that Stafford will miss up to four-to-six weeks. The Lions' next six games includes games against the Eagles, Vikings, Packers, Rams, and Giants. Detroit's bye comes in Week Seven. UPDATE: A source close to Stafford describes the team's concern as "all speculation at this point." X-rays were not taken at the game because the Lions had no access to a machine at Soldier Field.

What's was even tougher for me to swallow than watching Calvin get gang raped by a pack of zebras, was seeing Stafford go down with what looks like another serious injury. Pretty sure the day that Peppers went to the Bears I said that Stafford would get decapitated by him in week one and sure as shit it happened. I just can't believe the Lions are still pretending that this is a real offensive line. It's essentially the same line that went 0-16 and has been among the league leaders in sacks allowed year after year. As much as I think Mayhew has done a good job thus far piecing this team together, he totally balked on not taking Oher with the 20th pick after drafting Stafford. They had a guaranteed pro-bowler sitting there for them 19 picks after taking your franchise quarterback and decided that getting Pettigrew was more important than protecting Stafford. Well, a year in, Pettigrew is dropping passes and shying away from contact and Stafford has suffered 3 major injuries. You do the math, shit doesn't add up. Everyone knows Stafford has the makeup of a star quarterback, it's just a shame we didn't decide to protect him from the first snap of his career. Guy can only take so many hits like that before he gets gun shy. Before you know it we're gonna turn him into Joey Harrington.

As tough as Matthew is, I imagine this is gonna keep him out at least through the bye week. Which means Lions will be 1-6 on Halloween when they host the Redskins.
