Lions Show Improvement But Are Still Officially The Red Headed Stepchild Of The NFL

There were ups and there were downs. Honestly, early in the first half it looked like the Lions might roll, but then that defense so susceptible to the big play reared it's ugly head and let the Eagles right back in it. And without shooting a dead horse week in and week out, the inability to stop the big play is the Lions most pressing concern. I could sit here and tell you how bad this secondary is but you already know, and unfortunately, so does every other team they play. The Lions are gonna hang with teams this year but not being able to stop your opponents from grabbing 50 yards at a pop any time they decide to buckle down is what's gonna make this year tough to watch. And when that big play is coming you can almost feel it, it's usually right after the other team comes to the realization that they're getting beat by the Lions.

Jahvid Best proved that he is gonna be the guy for years to come and is hands down the most reliable offense tool that the Lions have at their disposal. Moving up to get him in last year's draft is looking like a better decision with each game that he plays because let's be honest, without him the lions offense would be just one deep threat without a healthy quarterback that can throw a deep ball. But drop him in there and this offense starts to look functional and things open up for the tight ends and our receivers down field even with a geriatric quarterback throwing the ball.

The Schwartz heard people bitchin about his lack of emotion so he came out and oozed it all over the field. This is easily the best Lions picture from the new regime to date. We all know he's a methodical mind but it was great to see that fire burning deep in his loins on Sunday. And thank fuckin god that they overturned that Jackson completion. I was about 2 seconds away from auctioning off my Barry jersey and quiting football all together.

What the hell is up with Calvin still not getting the ball in the first half? Seems like they only go to him or he only gets open when the shit has already hit the fan. I'm tired of hearing the "we don't wanna force it" excuse. Force the fuckin ball in there. Look how high this dude can fuckin jump. If he's supposed to be this absolute beast, ala Andre Johnson, then it's about time he starts making tough plays when it counts. Otherwise, the Lions missed out on an opportunity to deal him last year when they probably could've gotten some teams 1st round pick this year and their first round pick next year for him. Now it looks like we're gonna have to give him 70 million plus next year and he just ain't worth it.

The Lions D front got to Vick a fair amount and it's great to see them getting some solid play from not just Vanden Boesch and Suh. Turk McBride was all over last game and they were able to sack Vick six times throughout the game. Even though the effort is there the lack of results are still a matter of sloppy execution and Vick made them pay numerous times as he slipped off tackles and hurt the Lion with some big first downs.

Fake Lion cheerleaders, The Detroit Pride, were out in full force on Sunday and from what I hear they made a solid effort. I mean it looks like they have a few chicks that can make plays but all in all way too many second stringers on this team. Just like the Lions, way too many holes that need to be filled. Literally.

I know Ernie Sims sucks, and watching him play against us really confirmed it, but would it hurt us to have another mediocre linebacker around? Without DeAndre we're hurtin and getting rid of Ernie was an iffy move when you're already paper thin at linebacker and did nothing to address it in the draft. Don't get me wrong Tony Scheffler, I love your Chelsea born ass but we should've traded them Kevin Smith to get you cause all he's good for is throwing in huge fuckin lippers of Grizzly mint.

PS - Holy shit! Check out this Amari Spievey sighting. I'm think that's him crumpled under that mass of humanity, watching his teammate recover the onside kick. I laugh out loud every time I think about how Hawkeye superfan Worm told me that Spievey was the steal of the draft and he wanted the Bears to have him. Riiiight, good call Millen.
