Raffi Torres Not Suspended for Hit on Brent Seabrook

The NHL is 100% correct in not suspending Raffi Torres for his hit on Brent Seabrook. In fact I think the Hawks got lucky even getting the interference call out of it. As long as I've been lacing up my skates it's pretty much been common knowledge that if you come around the back of the net with your head turned around, then you're gonna get decapitated. That's why every coach you've had since mites tells you to keep your head up.

Now some people might think I don't understand the new NHL rule emphasizing the elimination of blindside hits to the head, but I just don't think it applies in this situation. Torres came at him from head on, not from the side or behind. It's gotta be the responsibility of the puck carrier to watch where he's skating and avoid a hit. It seems to me that there is a noticeable trend of people being more brazen in situations like this because they feel protected by the new rule change. Not suspending Torres for this hit should put some of the emphasis back on the puck carrier but still allows room for the NHL to crack down on the blindside elbows from the side and behind.

  1. I can't agree with you more, great hit, Hockey 101 when coming around the net keep your damn head up unless you want to get murdered. It is right up there with don't watch your pass or else you will get killed.
